SUMMARY
The Specialist works collaboratively with the student's educational team and parent(s)/guardian(s) to develop and implement intervention strategies within the school environment that allows the student to be successful.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Counselor Certification and Master's Degree, or other degree(s) which are in line with the essential functions of this position. Documentation of adequate performance on a previous evaluation. FBI fingerprint background check is required, or a valid Arizona DPS Fingerprint Card. Some experience with the Tohono O'odham Culture is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.
- Collaborated with district staff, parents, community, and students to develop plans that will benefit specifically identified students at risk for absence and/or tardy issues and/or social/emotional issues. Work as a bridge between school and community to enrich and support the education of the whole child.
- Collaborates, plans, and implements individual student success behavioral contracts/plans.
- Reviews and analyzes student records for the purpose of determining their particular needs and interests in order to assist them.
- Supervises student progress on assigned caseload on a day-to-day basis.
- Advises Administration and mentor teacher on student progress and other issues
- Consults with parents/guardians regarding student behavior and progress.
- Coordinates with businesses and other community resources for the purpose of receiving and providing support for students in connection with caregivers.
- Maintains progress files for each student identified, collaborates with case managers and teachers regarding each student's needs, and makes recommendations for changes as needed.
- In addition, this person will assist in other duties related to promoting character education development.
- Works with Child Study Program and coordinates Child Study Program.
- Coordinates and collaborates with Parent Liaison
- Supports Success Academy for behavioral referrals, and insure students are successfully Implementing Study Island, Plato, and other materials.
- Other duties as needed to help students be successful with school and life
- Work with success plan for students
MENTAL TASKS
Strong communication skills – verbally and in writing. Reads. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Promotes learning and ensures safety. Perform functions from written and oral instructions and from observing and listening to others. Evaluate written materials.
PHYSICAL TASKS
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time, and requires moving from one location to another, reaching, stooping, bending, and holding and grasping objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability may be required in public contact positions.
EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS
Utilizes office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, computers, and associated classroom technology.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor - classroom environment. Outdoor - all weather conditions and temperatures. Contact with the students, employees, parents, and public.
SUPERVISION:
Employee reports to Building Administrator.
