SUMMARY:    

Supports teachers and students in meeting or exceeding state and district academic standards in reading and literacy.  Works with principals and site specialists to facilitate the delivery of sound reading instruction to students through researched-based professional development.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge and/or experience as a trainer in the Essential Elements of Instruction
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with a Reading Endorsement
  • Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Minimum three years of classroom teaching experience
  • Experience developing reading interventions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.

  • To help students develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to their academic growth.
  • Participates in the district’s reading principles training and supports implementation in the classrooms.
  • Work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies.
  • Provides support and monitoring for the continued school-wide reading programs and best instructional practices in reading principles in the classroom.
  • Developing intervention groups based on assessment data that addresses the specific needs of a particular child when regular classroom instruction is not sufficient.
  • Collaborate with the teacher and instructional leadership team to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each student.
  • Participating in campus intervention team and providing support to students.
  • Progress monitoring and assess students to provide data for student growth plans.
  • Supports and monitors the implementation of balanced literacy approaches.
  • Provides small group and/or 1-1 reading instruction for student interventions.
  • Administers and utilizes district data to monitor student/school progress.
  • Perform other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Administrator. 

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent communication skills.  Demonstrates writing competency, flexibility, and professional development presentation skills.  Demonstrates successful collaboration.

 

MENTAL TASKS:

Communicating. Reading. Develops and implements plans. Promotes learning and ensures safety. Performs functions from written and oral instructions and from observing/ listening to others. Evaluates written materials to include written assignments and tests.

 

PHYSICAL TASKS:

Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time, and requires moving from one location to another, reaching, stooping, bending, and holding and grasping objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability may be required in public contact positions.

 

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS:

Use of interactive smart board, instructional or office equipment, such as telephone, computer, copier, and any other associated classroom technology.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoor - classroom environment.  Outdoor - all weather conditions and temperatures.  Contact with the public, employees, students, and parents.
