SUMMARY     Repairs and maintains light, medium and heavy vehicles.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Two years of skilled automotive repair experience required, to include mechanical and electrical repair. 
  • Verbal and written communication skills required, including a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/grapic and oral instructions.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, or education
  • Automotive Technology Certificate preferred
  • Must not have accrued six (6) points against driver's license within the past three (3) years.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRE:

  • A Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class “B” with air brake, Passenger “P” and School Bus “SB” endorsement required within 90 days of hire.  An out of state CDL must be transferred to state of Arizona prior to hire.
  • Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Medical Certificate required after hire.
  • FBI fingerprint background check required.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.

  • Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs non-diesel or diesel powered vehicles.  This includes vehicles components such as brakes, transmissions, tires, engines, and vehicle systems such as electrical, air, and cooling systems.
  • Inspects a variety of District vehicles such as buses, trucks, cars, tractors, trenchers, forklifts, trailers, etc. to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Evaluates district vehicle tires to determine repair vs. replacement and repairs or replaces tires accordingly.
  • Performs safety and service inspection on all vehicles for the proper operation of equipment such as brakes, shocks, lights, filters, belts, etc. Repairs or replaces equipment as required.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on district vehicles such as changing oil, filters, and fluids of all vehicles needing service/maintenance.
  • Maintains records of all vehicles serviced, records deficiencies.  Logs all parts and supplies used for repairs.
  • Performs service road calls on vehicles needing tire repair or replacement.  Performs off-site service calls on an emergency/on call basis.
  • Checks engine oil barrels and necessary supplies, keeps stock filled, maintains work area and keeps it clean. 
  • Properly disposes of all waste (including hazardous waste) in accordance with government regulations.
  • Make recommendations and assists auto mechanics with repairs as available and needed.

 

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS     Assists with shop inventory as requested.

 

MENTAL TASKS

Communicates.  Reads.  Comprehends.  Performs functions from written, graphic and oral instructions and from observing others.  Evaluates written materials.  Ability to read and comprehend auto repair and maintenance manuals.

 

PHYSICAL TASKS

Work involves the performance of duties where considerable physical exertion is required as a normal part of the job.  Assistance is normally available to perform unusually physically demanding tasks.   Work may involve lifting and carrying objects weighing as much as 75 pounds up to 50 yards as a regular part of the job.  Climbing, stooping, bending, reaching, walking and sitting for extended periods of time may be required as a normal part of the job.  Employees must not have any limitations of motion, and vision and hearing should be rated as acceptable to obtain the required driver’s license.  Verbal communicative ability may be required of public contact.

 

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS

Uses tools of the trade. Uses office equipment such as telephone and copier, and other communications equipment, such as a 2-way radio.  Operates a standard or automatic transmission motor vehicle.  Operates power-driven machinery.  Operates foot controls simultaneously.  Uses hand tools to make repairs.  Requires wearing protective equipment, glasses, or shield.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoor.  Shop environment.  Exposure to noise.  Exposure to dust, gas, fumes.  Contact with employees, students and public.  Outdoor.  Exposure to all weather/climate and traffic conditions and temperatures.  May work in small, cramped areas.  Must be available to work flexible work schedule.
