SUMMARY: To support student learning in the absence of their regular classroom teacher. Acts as a roving substitute teacher for Prekindergarten through 12th grade to cover classrooms substitute assignments, or as directed
COMPENSATION: $165 daily rate for 200 contact days and 6 holidays (school year calendar)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Required – Arizona Department of Education Substitute, Teaching or Administrative Certificate; and valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.
- Guides the learning process to accomplish the curriculum goals according to lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher;
- Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate;
- Follows professional practices consistent with school district policies in working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues;
- Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom;
- Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment;
- Ensures adequate supervision to assure health, welfare and the safety of all students;
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precaution to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
- Reports to the office upon arrival at the school site for absent teacher lesson plans, and requests for clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary
- Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
- Acts as a roving substitute teacher
- Acts in a professional manner;
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Building Administrator.
MENTAL TASKS
Communicates – verbally and in writing. Reads. Analyze and evaluate student progress and course curriculum. Develop, implement and evaluate plans. Manages classroom. Promotes learning and ensures safety. Perform functions from written and oral instructions and from observing and listening to others. Evaluate written materials to include written assignments and tests.
PHYSICAL TASKS
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, stooping, bending, and holding and grasping objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability may be required of public contact positions.
EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS
Use of instructional classroom technology and/or office equipment, ie. computer, laptop, and copier.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Indoor - classroom environment. Outdoor - all weather conditions and temperatures. Contact with the public, employees, students, and parents.
CONTROL, SUPERVISION
Monitor control of students, volunteers and/or assistants in the classroom, playground, field-trips, lunchroom, library, school buses and other areas.
